Currently in the private forestry sector inIreland, there is just 5.69% of the forests certified.
This is very low by European standards.
A recent report by COFORD A Study on PrivateForest Certification in Ireland estimated that in the 5 year period from2022 to 2026, almost 2000 forest owners, principally farmers will need to havetheir forests certified in order to maintain certification thresholds.
This represents almost 3 million cubic metersof timber.
A significant task which needs immediate actionby Government.
