The Native Tree Area Scheme is a new incentive to promote small scale native forest establishment in the forestry programme.

There are two components that landowners can avail of

• NTA 1 – Creation of small native forests
• NT2 – Creation of native forests for water protection

An afforestation licence is not required for the Native Tree Area Scheme thus making entry to the scheme easier.

The annual premium payable under the Native Tree Area Scheme is up to €2,284 per hectare or €924 per acre per year.
